HI TULI! TELL US MORE ABOUT YOURSELF
My name is Tulimelila (Tuli for short) and I come from Namibia :) I am actually in the US for a 6-week programme called the Mandela Washington Fellowship which has brought together 1000 young leaders from all over Africa to do a summer fellowship at US universities.
I am a professional dancer and human rights activist who has been placed at Dartmouth College doing business and entrepreneurship. I am actually really inspired by your business model and had found out about Kurly Klips while I was still in Namibia - I was really excited to order a set of klips when I got here :)
FAVORITE PRODUCTS TO USE ON YOUR KURLY KLIPS
WHAT’S YOUR CARE ROUTINE?
I like to comb out my klips a bit to get the full afro texture. So to get out knots when I remove the klips, I spritz them lightly with water and comb through them with a wide-toothed comb dipped in a little coconut oil.
ANY FAVORITE MEMORIES WHILE WEARING YOUR KURLY KLIPS?
Definitely presenting my choreography at the Russo Gallery to a host of distinguished guests including the gallery founders. I felt beautiful, I felt confident and my work was received really well.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD?
It has taken me a long time to accept myself - in fact, I am still trying. It is so hard to retain our self-esteem when we are bombarded with caucasian culture, hatred and negative messaging every day. But we are spectacular, we are #blackgirlmagic, we have a swing in our hips and a curve to our lips, the light hugs our curls and revels in our skin. We are black and we are beautiful and we must never forget it.
