Has a girl ever tried to shame you for wearing hair extensions? If you stalk online hair forums, you'll see this behavior all the time. Even from fellow naturals (sometimes especially from fellow naturals, let's be real.)

I can recall a few women who have tried to devalue me for wearing hair extensions. They issued these low blows as a way to increase their self-esteem. And I recognized this. But the comments still sting, especially when their mission is to embarrass you in front of others.

If you're dealing with this, I want you to know one thing:

THERE IS NO SHAME IN WEARING HAIR EXTENSIONS.

Just as there is no shame in wearing makeup. No shame in curating your wardrobe. And no shame in adorning your body. You are free to decorate yourself as you wish. So style your hair with pride. If you love it, nothing else matters.

But how do you deal with the haters tho? Well, there are two roads you can take. The low road and the high road. The low road might feel more gratifying in the moment, but the saints within us should aspire to its heavenly counterpart. But let's start with with the low road first because it's fun ;)

Some Low Road Techniques:

If someone tries to come at you for wearing hair extensions, you can...

1) Hit em with some old school Missy from Gossip Folks:

Hi, Missy?
What's up fools?
You think I ain't knowing yall broke Milli Vanilli
Jay Jay fan wannabes ain't over here gossiping bout me?
Yo how bout you buff these Pumas for 20 cents so your lights won't get cut off
You soggy breasts, cow stomachs
Yo take those baby GAP shirts off, too
You just mad cuz Payless ran out of plastic pumps for the after party
Yo, by the way, go get my album
Damn!

2) Channel your inner Drake at your next function. Then hit them with a PowerPoint presentation that displays their physical shortcomings.

3) Grow a giant fist like Luda and knock them out.

And the high road:

The high road consists of not getting muddied with the swine. So if someone tries to shame you publicly, treat it as a non-issue. Here's the thing, girls like this can only embarrass you if you let them.

What do I mean by that? If you don't feel and look embarrassed, they've failed. So if you respond with a, "yeah... and? I love them," the mic will drop, and people will see the instigator for who she is.

And to REALLY be an angel, follow up by complimenting her. Find one nice thing to say about her and turn the negative situation into a positive one. Remember, you have the power. Don't give people your power.

Has this ever happened to you? What did you say? Let us know in the comments! We love hearing from you :*

Yours in Beauty,

Lana
